Text From eMail Update - 12-31-2001

The following is from the email update sent out by Mike Weikert in June 2001
I wanted to send another update (maybe this will be a monthly thing for awhile) and begin to give everyone some details.  First another THANK YOU for all the new updates from those of you new to the email list.  At the current trend, next month the list of those who have not updated will be shorter than those that have and I will include the list for all to review to determine if they may have a contact for someone "lost".  Next, I have included the first update at the bottom of this email for those new to the mail list, it will give you a foundation regarding the following comments.

Now lets cover some details, I apologize for the length, but allot to be covered in this update.

Financial/Chapter:
1) I have set-up a new UTA Triangle Alumni Business account at a new bank (Wells Fargo) to help me with doing my job (online) and hopefully facilitate transfer to the next Treasurer some day.
2) Our Chapter currently has a debt to Triangle National of $10, 875.  This is a combination of Alumni ($1,324), Active ($5,939), Insurance-which also covers the Alumni Board ($1,452), and "Old" Receivables ($2,160)
3) I will be proposing to National that we (UTA Chapter) pay the Alumni debt and the Insurance Debt (since we were covered and it was cost that National actually incurred on our behalf) which is a total of $2,776, or about 26% of the total.
4) I will send a formal proposal to National in late July and request that I be given some time on the agenda at the National Convention in August to request the convention approve our proposal and forgive the remainder of the debt.  I plan to negotiate minimally, if they want anything materially more than I propose I will inform them that we cannot support it and we will not be organizing an effort to pay any of the debt or maintain the UTA charter.
5) To be a solvent Alumni organization we need to generate a revenue stream of approximately $500/year to cover direct expenses ($100/year-insurance, $50/year Alumni Dues, $300/year to cover our obligation to send one person to convention every 2 years).  We need to commit to this as an organization as a minimum, otherwise call it quits now.  To cover these expenses and pay our debt off in approximately 18 months my plan requires us to raise $200/month.
6) We currently have about $500 in our account which is from the old "Big 20" account.  I will be rolling those funds into the new account that I established (using my own funds) and it will be utilized against the plan outlined above.  We currently have no other funds.
7) My immediate needs: On average I need each of you on this email to commit to contributing $100 to the chapter to cover our financial needs for the next 18 months, more is obviously helpful and as our network of "found" brothers grows hopefully we can build a small cushion of funds to support the plan, hopefully fund some networking events and then look into the future.
8) There is obviously a need for funds immediately if we are going to be able to make some good faith progress on this proposal prior to me showing up at the convention asking for mercy.

I have arranged for you to easily contribute to the Chapter through a secure Credit Card transaction on the Web, the link is on our UTA Alumni site at www.trianglealumni.com and will be processed by iNet Dynamics (owned by Brothers Diver, Droste, Wilson and Weikert) with 100% of the proceeds going to the Alumni group.
You can also send a check if that is more comfortable for you:  Make check payable to: Triangle Fraternity
and mail it to:
       Mike Weikert
       701 Lake Park Drive
       Oak Point, Texas   75068

9) I will gauge our commitment to this plan by the response received over the next 2-3 weeks and determine my going forward position at that time.
10) We have not filed a chapter tax return in many years, I do not have any update on the impact of this yet.
11) Please call me if you would like to discuss any of the above in more detail or if you have any suggestions, comments, .... 972-672-7976

Organizationally:
1) We have 90 total brothers on the roster for UTA and incase you have not heard the UTA Active Chapter and House has been closed and I think the House demolished by the University.
2) I currently have newly updated records for 30 of the above 90 brothers and one adopted Aggie- thanks for participating Paul Bierwagen
3) I believe we can add at least another 30 or more to our database before we start having a difficult time getting any new updates.
4) I would like to have a UTA gathering later this summer, and I (really my wife Janice) volunteer my home as a location.  Is there interest for a family type event, kids, picnic, BBQ, swimming...let me know if there is interest.
5) Current Alumni Officers: Mark Middleton-President, Robert Baugh-Vice President, Mike Weikert-Treasurer, Trey Young-Secretary
6) Between Ed Pultorak and Mark Middleton all the artifacts from the chapter - ritual stuff, composites, awards....are being stored for the future.  If you have desire's to hold something (other than the ritual stuff) we will consider sending it to you for safe keeping gien that it will come back to the chapter if we re-colonize in the future.

Web Site:
1) I would like some help with this - anyone interested in spending time progressing the site?
2) I will be adding some items to the site: Text of these email updates, gathering some more info on each of us, maybe a secure page with contact info for each of us, maybe an announcement page....please make suggestions
3) Does anyone on this list have a problem with sharing contact info with the rest of the group?
